The project is to assess the chosen company with respect to the following four major areas of management: Planning, Organizing, Leading, and Controlling (The P-O-L-C framework).
Questions to include in the presentation: (The P-O-L-C framework)
1) Planning: History of the company, mission statement. What is the firm’s organizational goals (short-term and/or long-term). What course of action does it has in place to reach those goals? For example, is the firm planning to expand globally, increasing its marketing on the web, recruiting talents globally, offering new products and services, etc.
2) Organizing: How is the organization organized? Basically, this question can be answered by viewing the organizational chart. Who oversees what business functions? It is a recommendation to complete a couple of paragraphs explaining the organizational chart. If an organizational chart cannot be located, the next option is to identify the upper management team describing who oversees what functions/departments. It may be broken down by departments or products and/or services.
3) Leading: What type of leadership style is identified with the company? What is the company’s corporate culture? How does communication flow at the company? How does the firm appear to motivate its workforce? How does the HR Department recruit, hire, and retain its employees?
4) Controlling: How do the company measure its success? How successful has it been in the last five (5) years? Has the firm changed its operational processes and business systems to improve its success? What is the firm’s relationship with the global business environment?
The written presentation should be 4 complete pages, and reference pages are not included in the 4-page count. You are required to have at least five (5) references and one of those references can be the course textbook. ( Contemporary Management, 8th Edition )
